How to Add Product Variations in Woo Commerce: Every online store needs to apply variations to their products. Variations make it easy to list the same products with different sizes or colors in one listing by providing different variations. WooCommerce is the best platform to start online selling of your products. It is easy to handle and with just a little guidance and practice you can easily customize your store.

How to Add Product Variations in Woo Commerce?

1. Configure Attributes

The firsts thing you need to do before adding variations to the product is, setting up attributes. Attributes are the characteristics of the products and variations rely on the attributes. To set up and configure attributes, follow the below steps:

Step 1:

Navigate to Products from your WordPress dashboard. Under the Products option, click on Attributes. A new page will appear with settings to Add New Attributes.

Step 2:

In the next step you need to do the following settings to create an attribute;

Name: provide a suitable name to your attribute such as Color.

Slug: provide a reference i.e. color or any number.

Enable Archives: check this option if you want the attribute to have product archives.

Now click on the Add Attribute button to save your attribute.

Step 3:

In this step, hover over the created attribute and click on Configure Terms.

Product color page will appear with the list of settings to configure:

  • Name: add the name of the color or size.
  • Slug: provide a reference.
  • Description: if you want to add a description to your attribute then provide a short description here.
  • Add New Color: click on Add New Color to add as many colors to the attributes as you want.

2. Change Product Type

Secondly, you need to set up the product type while adding a product.

To do so follow the below steps;

Step 1:

Navigate to Products from your WordPress dashboard, click on Add New.

Step 2:

You will be directed to the Add New Product page. After adding the title and media and configuring other settings scroll down to the Product Databox. Change the product type from Simple Product to Variable Product.

3. Add Attributes to the Product

The third thing you need to do is to add the attribute you have created earlier to your products. To do so, follow the below steps:

Step 1:

Under the Product Databox, click on Attributes.

Step 2:

Now from the drop-down menu, select the attribute that you have created earlier i.e. Color. And click on the Add button.

Now under the Color attribute click on Select all or select manually. Also, make sure to tick the ‘Used for Variation’ box.

Now click on the Save Attribute button to add the attribute to your product.

4. Add Variations to the Product

Lastly, you have to add product variations to your product. To add product variations follow the below steps;

Step 1:

After saving the attributes in the product data box, click on the Variation option.

Now from the drop-down menu, select the option ‘Create Variations from all Attributes’ and click on the Go option.

Step 2:

You will receive a confirmation message click yes and then you will get a message that your variations have been added. Now click on the individual variation to add price, stock, SKU, weight, etc. You can also upload a picture of the variable product.

And then click on the Save Changes option to save your settings.

Final Step

Now after setting up other necessary options, click on the Publish button. You will see on the product view page that the variations have been added to your products.
